What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Cookies

Like every website out there, Popcorn Alley Reviews uses cookies in its regular operation. You should know that because we have a little button that pops up telling you this.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you search for a term or item through the website’s search bar, this search is logged without personally identifying markers.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

We do not knowingly allow anyone under the age of 18 to create accounts or comment on this site. If Popcorn Joe discovers anyone under the age of 18 has data stored with the site it will promptly be removed.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Analytics

When you visit our site, your visitation is logged through analytics severs so that we might better understand our readers habits. Popcorn Joe is not too nosy, however, and makes every effort to keep this information as anonymized as possible.

This data collected includes IP (internet protocol) addresses, browser type, ISP (internet service provider), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends. The IP address collected in this manner automatically have the last octet wiped before storage, so that they are anonymized before an administrator could see them.

One method of opting out of such analytics is to use Google’s Analytics Opt-Out web browser extension.

External Links

Popcorn Alley Reviews uses hyperlinks in the body of our text reviews. Most often, these links will lead to an outside source of information, like www.imdb.com or www.wikipedia.org.

We are not responsible for the privacy or security of these outside links and care should always be taken in clicking such links, no matter how safe Popcorn Joe tries to make everything. Be aware that these links may direct you away from our site.

Who we share your data with

We do not use third-party advertisements of any sort and never sell or profit from the data you provide to us.

Any data you choose to provide in the form of comments will be visible for other users to see. Please, be responsible with what information you share with others on this site.
